I am currently teaching 6th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra 8, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Business Math. I sponsor Math Relays and the Class of 2025.
I student taught at Felten Middle School and Thomas Moore Prep-Marian in Hays, Kansas, during the Fall of 1999. I then covered for my teacher at TMP while she was on maternity leave in January-February 2000. Caldwell became my first official teaching job in March 2000. I have coached high school volleyball, middle school volleyball, and middle school basketball in the past. I have previously been the National Honor Society advisor and was co-chair for Senior Project. I have also been a member of the Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics.
Caldwell launched as a Gemini II Redesign School for the 2019-20 school year. I have been serving on the district’s redesign team as part of this project and have been named as the Caldwell Secondary School Pilot. USD 360 is continuing the school redesign process now that has been combined with Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA). I am always looking forward to helping students to discover their WINGS (Worth, Interests, Needs, Goals, and Skills).
In 2018, I was nominated from our district to be Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY). I became part of KTOY Team G and visited ten Kansas school districts throughout January – May 2018. I also hosted Team G on Kansas Day and they fell in love with our district and community. The KTOY visits were the best teaching experience of my career. I am currently implementing several ideas I gained from my visits. In July 2018, I was trained as a resilience coach and studied trauma-informed schools.
I am married to David Barnes, a Caldwell alum. He is employed at KanOkla and we live in Caldwell. We were married in 2006 and have three cats, Bo, Ted & Lucky. We love to go on road trips!! Our favorite places are Colorado and Yellowstone National Park.
I am an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball, and the Kansas City Chiefs. I enjoy cross-stitch and painting barn quilts. I love spending time with my family and traveling to watch Cubs games with them.
