Food Safety Education Month

September is Food Safety Education Month.  Every year 1 in 6 Americans get sick from eating contaminated food!  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers some great tips on how to prevent food poisoning and keep food safe.  

  1. Clean:  Wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces often when you cook 


  1. Separate: Raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs can spread germs. Separate them from cooked food or fresh produce. 


  1. Cook:  Use a food thermometer to make sure foods are cooked to an internal temperature that kills germs. 


  1. Chill: Refrigerate perishable foods and leftovers within two hours. Chill within one hour if it’s above 90°
