USD 360 Caldwell Schools Facilities Survey

Posted Date: 11/17/2022

The USD 360 School Board is considering a possible bond project and is currently in the planning stages.  Several things are being discussed and the school board is seeking community input.  The original high school building built in 1916 is currently used for the maintenance offices and supplies, five classrooms, Sumner County Mental Health office, GIfted ed., Credit Recovery Center/ISS room, a weight room, CES after school program, and storage.  This building has multiple issues with plumbing, heating and cooling. In addition issues with the elevator which all totaled are becoming a financial burden on the district to maintain or continue to try and fix.

Please note that there are other facility maintenance issues that also need to be addressed in the other buildings occupied by students including HVAC and the roof on the 2001 addition. The district has deferred some maintenance items due to costs so those deferred items may become associated with a bond project.

A structural analysis of the old high school building has been completed and the building is in fair to good structural condition considering the age of the building.  Some ideas being discussed include razing the old high school and building needed new classrooms, a weight room/community wellness center, additional work would be to remodel the shop building to serve as a tech center to house the district’s career and technology educational programs, a new preschool facility that would include a daycare, or look at options to renovate inside the shell of the old high school to possibly house the weight room/community wellness center, several additional classrooms, and possibly an auxiliary gym.

Please answer the following questions to help guide the school board with these decisions.  Following the survey the school district plans to hold a community meeting to discuss the results and the costs associated with the various options and to get additional input from the community.

Surveys are for parents and patrons that reside within the USD 360 boundaries. Access to the survey will close on November 30, 2022. We appreciate you taking the time to provide input to the board.
